Aloo Chana Chaat (Potato & Chickpea Salad)

Chaat is often eaten in South Asian homes as an afternoon snack or served to guests. It is very easy to make and very healthy. There are lots of variations on chat and often the different regions over the subcontinent have there own local favorites. It is found on every roadside food cart selling to students all over India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal. Aloo chaat is a particular favorite in North India and Pakistan. Others include bhel puri, gol gappa, sevpuri and many others.

 

Servings: 3

Ingredients to make chaat

  • 1 cup Chickpeas (boiled or use canned)
  • 1 cup Potatoes boiled
  • 1 tsp White pepper
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp driedmango powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup Yogurt
  • 2 tbsp Green coriander leaves
  • few Mint leaves
  • ½ Tomato (finely chopped)
  • ½ Onion (finely chopped)
  • 1-2 Green chili
  • 2-3 Papri

Method

  1. In a bowl add chickpeas, potatoes, white pepper, cumin powder, and salt.
  2. Put yogurt in blender with mint and coriander and blend well.
  3. Pour yogurt into chickpeas bowl along with the onion, tomatoes, green chili and mix well.
  4. Garnish with crushed papri. Leave to chill in fridge until serving.
