Brexit minister says it is ‘very improbable’ UK will remain a member of the single market

In comments that go further than those made by the Prime Minister, David Davis told Parliament that it is a “simple truth” that Britain could have to leave the single market so it can control European migration. EU leaders have repeatedly said that Britain will have to accept freedom of movement rules if it wants to remain a part of the single market after Brexit. Brexit Secretary David Davis insisted that Britain will still be able to “access” the single market even if it is no longer a member. Mr Davis’ comments came after an Italian minister threatened to start a trade war with the UK if the British Government attempts to curb free movement rules.
