Nawaz’s losing grip perturbs India

The deep trouble that prime minister Nawaz Sharif finds himself in following the damning JIT report against him and his family has worried India, for it feels that a new security challenge could emerge from Pakistan.

The accusations that the report has leveled are grave and point out to the PM as being involved in perjury and deceit. If the apex court acts on the report, Sharif may well be on her way out.India feels that it this would present a new challenge as the generals will be on the frontline once again.

Delhi fears that the GHQ-led security policies will spell trouble for India. It believes that it is the army and the ISI which stirs up anti-India elements to bleed India by thousand cuts.On the other hand Nawaz is deemed soft and pro-India.

Sharif and India 

Though ties between the two countries are strained due to a host of issues, Sharif’s tilt towards India is highly-touted and this makes Delhi comfortable. Sharif and Modi are said to have good ties on a personal level. Sharif visited India on Modi’s inauguration while the latter paid a surprise visit to attend Sharif granddaughter’s wedding in Lahore.

His secret visit to Pakistan was met with a lot of skepticism.Opponents of the Sharif family have maintained that Nawaz prefers his business interests in India over those of Pakistan, which affects the country’s position vis-a-vis.

Nawaz Sharif has always alluded to the famous bus journey made by the then Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He reiterates that the peace process and later the government was sabotaged by the then Army Chief General Musharraf who launched the offensive in Kargil.

Sharif and his family are alleged to have business ties with steel magnate Sajjan Jindal. His secret visit to Pakistan was met with a lot of skepticism.Opponents of the Sharif family have maintained that Nawaz prefers his business interests in India over those of Pakistan, which affects the country’s position vis-a-vis.

Nawaz’s fiercest rival in Imran Khan has always accentuated upon his business ties with India. He claimed that India considers Nawaz Sharif its ally and is concerned for his possible ouster.

Nawaz has been often criticized for not taking a tough line towards  India over its human rights violations in Kashmir and its subversive activities inside Pakistan. Imran says that this is primarily done to safeguard the families business ventures in India.

Nawaz has taken flak over his seemingly soft approach towards India. While the army is seen as India-centric both in Pakistan and all over the world.

Unbridled Generals and Nawaz’s phobia

Supporters of the PML-N have already started to create a narrative about a conspiracy being hatched against a democratic regime. India tries to sell its claim that the Pakistani Army is a  rogue one and a threat to peace in the region. It seems as if Nawaz is being supported by the usual suspects who have similar thoughts about the Pakistani establishment.

The ever-hostile ties between India and Pakistan have made temperatures run high in both the countries. Nawaz has taken flak over his seemingly soft approach towards India. While the army is seen as India-centric both in Pakistan and all over the world.

Except for the seasoned batsmen, people are convinced that the Sharif family failed to satiate the apex court and the JIT.They also believe his end is just near; his efforts to hold ground are hurting the spirit of democracy.

As of now, a majority expects the Army to go forward with the execution of R&AW spy Kulbushan; continue to respond to Indian violations on the LoC and most importantly unravel Indian activities inside Pakistan.

Thus far, there are fewer buyers of the conspiracy theories regarding the Panama Case. Except for the seasoned batsmen, people are convinced that the Sharif family failed to satiate the apex court and the JIT.They also believe his end is just near; his efforts to hold ground are hurting the spirit of democracy.

Indian concerns could not have come at a worse time than this. If anything, this will vindicate the long-held beliefs of the strong bond between Nawaz and India. At a time when he is grappling with a tough opposition at home, this timely support from the across the eastern border would not go down well. Nawaz stands in a precarious position and perhaps Delhi’s nod for him is the support that he did not need.
