Taylor, who previously led Vauxhall UK, is stepping into his new role at a pivotal moment for Nissan, especially with the launch of key models like the new Leaf and Micra on the horizon. His experience in the automotive sector, coupled with a keen understanding of market dynamics, positions him well to navigate the challenges ahead.

Taylor expressed enthusiasm about the journey ahead, emphasizing the need for agility in a rapidly changing industry. With Nissan already boasting two of the UK’s top-selling cars, he aims to leverage this momentum to drive sustainable growth. His leadership will be crucial as the company prepares for a busy product launch schedule and adapts to evolving customer demands.

Josep Maria Recasens Takes Charge at Ampere

In another notable move, Josep Maria Recasens has been appointed CEO of Ampere, Renault Group’s electric vehicle development arm. Replacing Luca de Meo, Recasens steps into this role at a time when Ampere is gearing up for the launch of the Twingo city car and a new range of C-segment models by 2028. His previous role as chief operating officer at Ampere gives him a solid foundation to lead the company into its next phase of growth.

De Meo praised Recasens for his leadership capabilities, indicating confidence in his ability to steer Ampere as a leader in the electric vehicle market. Alongside him, new appointments in the leadership team, including Marie Ollier as vice-president of human resources and Sandra Gomez as head of strategy, signal a strategic push towards innovation and market responsiveness.

Nissan GB Welcomes Ed Jones as Sales Director

Nissan GB is also welcoming Ed Jones as its new sales director, effective June 16. Jones returns to Nissan after a successful stint at Audi, where he honed his skills in sales operations. His primary focus will be on preparing for the next-generation Leaf EV launch and ensuring the continued success of popular models like the Qashqai and Juke.

Jones expressed excitement about rejoining Nissan during such a dynamic period, highlighting the brand’s impressive market performance and growth potential. His experience and insights will be invaluable as Nissan aims to solidify its position in a competitive landscape.

Kia UK’s Leadership Shuffle

Kia UK is undergoing a leadership transformation with Steve Hicks and Sanka De Silva swapping roles as marketing and sales directors. Hicks, who previously led sales, will now focus on marketing, while De Silva will take charge of sales. Both executives have been with Kia since 2017 and are well-versed in the brand’s strategic goals, particularly in enhancing Kia’s position in the electrification space.

Hicks emphasized the importance of customer engagement in marketing, while De Silva expressed eagerness to lead sales during a period of promising growth. This strategic shift reflects Kia’s commitment to adapting to market demands and enhancing its brand presence.

Lucid Motors Sees Leadership Changes

Lucid Motors is also in the midst of a leadership transition as Peter Rawlinson steps down as CEO after six years. He will now serve as a strategic technical advisor, while Marc Winterhoff, the current COO, takes over as interim CEO. Rawlinson’s tenure saw the launch of the Lucid Air, a model that has garnered attention for its impressive range and technology, though the company has faced challenges in achieving profitability.

With ambitious plans for the upcoming Gravity SUV and a new mid-size model, the company aims to double production by 2025. Winterhoff’s leadership will be critical as Lucid navigates its path to profitability and expands its product lineup.

Aston Martin Appoints Michelle Mortiboys as Chief Product Engineer

In a move that highlights the importance of female leadership in the automotive industry, Aston Martin has appointed Michelle Mortiboys as its new chief product engineer. Mortiboys brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles at Aptiv and Dyson, where she managed significant automotive programs. Her appointment reflects Aston Martin’s commitment to innovation and excellence in product development.

Mortiboys’ extensive background in engineering and manufacturing will be instrumental as Aston Martin continues to enhance its product offerings and navigate the evolving automotive landscape.

Stellantis UK Revamps Management Team

Stellantis UK has made significant changes to its management team, appointing new managing directors for several brands, including Fiat, Peugeot, and Abarth. Giuseppe Cava takes over as managing director for Fiat and Abarth, while Nicola Dobson steps in as Peugeot’s managing director. This restructuring aims to streamline operations and enhance brand performance in a competitive market.

Eurig Druce, who has been promoted to managing director of Stellantis UK, will oversee these changes and ensure continuity in the company’s strategic direction. His extensive experience within Stellantis positions him well to lead the company through its next phase of growth.

The automotive industry is in a state of flux, with leadership changes reflecting the need for adaptability and innovation. As these new executives step into their roles, their collective experience and vision will be crucial in shaping the future of their respective brands. The big takeaway? The automotive landscape isn’t just about the vehicles; it’s about the people steering the industry forward. Keep an eye on these leaders as they navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.

James Taylor takes the helm of Nissan’s UK arm, replacing Diana Torres

Welcome to Movers and Shakers, a new Autocar Business feature covering the latest job moves from across the automotive industry.

This page will be updated regularly with all the biggest transfers, promotions and departures in the sector, covering everything you need to know.

Name: James Taylor

Company: Nissan GB

Role: Managing director

Former Vauxhall UK boss James Taylor has been appointed Nissan GB’s new managing director.

Taylor, who left his role at Vauxhall in February, succeeds Diana Torres at Nissan GB, who herself only took on the role last March.
