<\/a><\/p>\nSkoda designer Ljudmil Slavov reveals new take on the 1980s hatchback \u2013 without overtly retro cues<\/p>\n
Skoda has reimagined the Favorit as a modern electric car<\/a>, melding the original\u2019s Bertone-penned lines with the brand\u2019s new Modern Solid design language.<\/p>\n Conceived by designer Ljudmil Slavov in some 120 hours of his own time, the project was intended to retain the feel of the 1987 hatchback without leaning on overtly retro cues, such as with the new Renault 5<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI wanted to update the original idea for today, when various SUVs are popular,\u201d said Slavov, adding that \u201ca higher body structure allows for better battery placement in the floor\u201d.<\/p>\n Slavov didn’t introduce the Modern Solid design language\u2019s most prominent design cue, the gloss-black Tech Deck face (as worn by the new Elroq and Enyaq).\u00a0He instead decided to \u201cevolve and elevate\u201d the \u201calready minimalistic\u201d features of the Favorit, which \u201cwas very challenging\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI sketched many versions, searched for the ideal shape of the grille and headlights, tried different perspectives\u00a0and consulted a lot with colleagues,\u201d Slavov said.<\/p>\n Among the clearest references to the original Favorit are the shape of the front and rear lights, comprising LED running lights and covers\u00a0hiding the main-beam lamps. The caron accents in the Skoda wordmarks\u00a0front and rear are also lit.<\/p>\n The simple\u00a0shape of the wheel inners, meanwhile, references the placeholders used by Skoda\u2019s designers when wheels aren’t the focal point of a proposal.<\/p>\n There are no detailed images of the interior, but the seats\u2019 headrests reference the open-centred items on the original Favorit\u00a0and the brown leather upholstery references the fashion of the late 1980s.<\/p>\n In addition to a passenger version, Slavov penned a rally version inspired by the Favorit that found success in the World Rally Championship\u2019s F2 class during the early 1990s.<\/p>\n This has a lower, wider stance and unpainted plastic bumpers, plus\u00a0a white, green and red livery inspired by that on the WRC Favorit 136 L\/A in Skoda\u2019s heritage collection.<\/span><\/p>\n![\"Skoda](\"https:\/\/www.globalvillagespace.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/reviving-a-classic-skodas-modern-take-on-the-iconic-favorit-ev-1.jpg\")
