I\u2019d be a hopeless sports coach. I don\u2019t just suspect that\u2019s the case, I fairly well know it, having spent a season \u2018managing\u2019 the Pear & Partridge FC, my local pub\u2019s football team, 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

Other than a notable 5-4 victory after being 4-0 down at half-time (local newspaper headline: \u2018Lovely Pear For Comeback Kings\u2019 \u2013 and yes, I wrote the match report), it wasn\u2019t a spell that had Ars\u00e8ne Wenger looking nervously over his shoulder.<\/p>\n

The nervousness, the anticipation, the feeling of dread. I hate it all. It doesn\u2019t matter how much prep or homework I\u2019ve done: one of my vehicles is going in to be judged and I don\u2019t know what the outcome will be.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the motoring equivalent of Schr\u00f6dinger\u2019s cat. I don\u2019t get the same feeling from the family Land Rover<\/a>, because I don\u2019t do any of the work on it. So it must be something about the feeling of being personally assessed.<\/p>\n
