So, when are these futuristic machines landing on British soil? According to Stella Li, BYD’s vice-chairman and head of European operations, Yangwang will officially launch in the UK in 2027. That’s a few years away, but there’s a method to the madness.

Li explains that the UK is a crucial market for premium vehicles, which makes it a natural fit for both Denza (BYD’s luxury brand launching here in 2025) and Yangwang. But Yangwang isn’t just another badge—it’s a statement. To make sure the brand hits the ground running, BYD wants to build a solid foundation first. That means assembling the right team, setting up infrastructure, and ensuring the cars can compete with the likes of Ferrari, Porsche, and Audi from day one.

What Makes Yangwang Different from Other Chinese Car Brands?

Let’s be honest—China’s car industry has exploded in recent years, but Yangwang isn’t just riding the wave. Launched in 2023, Yangwang sits at the top of BYD’s hierarchy, above both BYD’s mainstream lineup and the Denza luxury range. Think of it as the crown jewel, designed to go toe-to-toe with the world’s most exclusive performance brands.

Yangwang’s debut model, the U8, is a luxury SUV that’s anything but ordinary. We’re talking over 1,000 horsepower, the ability to spin 360 degrees on the spot, and even float on water. Yes, you read that right. The U8 is followed by the U9, an electric supercar that can hit 240 mph and—thanks to its wild hydraulic suspension—jump on the spot or even drive on three wheels. These aren’t just gimmicks; they’re a showcase of what’s possible when you throw out the rulebook.

How Do Yangwang’s Models Stack Up Against European Supercars?

It’s easy to be skeptical. After all, Europe has a long tradition of building world-class performance cars. But Yangwang isn’t shying away from the challenge. The U8 SUV, priced at around £120,000 in China, outpaces the BMW M3 and brings off-road tricks you won’t find in a Range Rover. Meanwhile, the U9 supercar, with a price tag near £200,000, is gunning for the likes of Ferrari and McLaren.

And they’re not stopping there. Yangwang is already teasing the U7, a super-saloon with a staggering 1,250 horsepower and 1,237 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to rocket from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds—numbers that put it squarely in the sights of the Lotus Emeya and other electric heavyweights.

What’s Driving BYD’s Ambition in the UK and Europe?

BYD isn’t a newcomer to the electric vehicle scene. In fact, it’s one of the world’s largest EV manufacturers, with a growing presence in Europe. The company’s strategy is clear: start with Denza to build credibility in the premium segment, then unleash Yangwang to challenge the very top of the market.

Why the UK? It’s simple. The UK is one of Europe’s leading markets for high-end cars, and British buyers are known for embracing innovation—especially when it comes with a dash of luxury and performance. BYD’s move is backed by recent data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), which shows the UK’s appetite for electric and premium vehicles is only growing, with EV sales up 18% year-on-year in 2023.

Are There More Models or Surprises on the Horizon?

Absolutely. While the U8 and U9 are grabbing headlines, BYD has hinted at more to come. The U7 super-saloon is already in the pipeline, and there’s talk of a burgeoning electric van range making its way to the UK. Given the booming demand for clean commercial vehicles, that could be a game-changer for businesses looking to go green without sacrificing capability.

It’s also worth noting that BYD’s approach is refreshingly methodical. Rather than rushing to flood the market, the company is focused on building a reputation for quality and innovation. That means British buyers can expect not just flashy specs, but real-world usability and aftersales support.

What Should UK Buyers Expect When Yangwang Arrives?

If you’re in the market for something truly different, Yangwang is worth watching. These cars aren’t just about straight-line speed—they’re packed with cutting-edge tech, bold design, and features you simply won’t find elsewhere. Imagine an SUV that can float or a supercar that jumps. It sounds like science fiction, but it’s very real.

Of course, with prices starting at six figures, Yangwang isn’t aiming for mass-market appeal. Instead, it’s targeting enthusiasts and early adopters who want to stand out from the crowd and experience the next wave of automotive innovation.

The Bottom Line: Is Yangwang Worth the Hype?

Yangwang’s UK debut is still a few years away, but the anticipation is already building. With a track record of shaking up the Chinese market and a clear strategy for Europe, BYD’s flagship brand is poised to make a serious impact. Whether you’re a die-hard car enthusiast or just curious about the future of electric mobility, Yangwang’s arrival promises to bring fresh energy—and a healthy dose of competition—to the UK’s premium car scene.

So, if you’re dreaming of a car that turns heads and rewrites the rulebook, keep your eyes peeled. The next chapter in electric performance is just around the corner, and it’s coming from a name you’ll soon know by heart.

Yangwang, launched in 2023, sits above BYD and Denza in the firm’s pyramid

BYD’s Ferrari-rivalling Yangwang brand will enter the UK, but not until 2027, according to the firm’s Europe chief.

The Chinese giant will launch its Denza brand in Britain next year with a three-car line-up designed to take on premium rivals such as Porsche and Audi – and the more extreme Yangwang will follow soon after.

Stella Li, BYD’s vice-chairman and Europe boss, said the push to bring both brands to the UK comes because it is one of the “leading countries for premium car sales, and so is very important for our Denza brand – and very important for Yangwang in the future”.

According to Li, the decision to wait until 2027 to launch Yangwang in the UK was to ensure it would be able to compete from the off.
