World leaders send best wishes for Ramadan

The Muslims throughout the world marked the month of Ramadan on 17th May. World leaders, including the President of the United States Donald Trump and the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, sent their best wishes to the Muslims around the world for the holy month of Ramadan.The White House released a statement that emphasized the importance of Ramadan to Muslims.

The statement said, “During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad through fellowship and prayer.  Many observe this holy time by fasting, performing acts of charity, reciting prayers, and reading the Quran.”

“Ramadan is a time of self-reflection intended to deepen one’s spiritual growth and renew a sense of appreciation for the many blessings God provides.  In this spirit of thanksgiving and reflection, those observing Ramadan can strengthen our communities, help those in need, and serve as good examples for how to live a holy life”, the statement added further.

“I extend my greetings to all the citizens on the pious month of Ramadan, and I have complete faith that this occasion will inspire us all to follow his message of peace and goodwill.”

The official statement from the White House ended with a joint message from President Trump and his wife Melania Trump wishing Muslims a blessed Ramadan. The Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, in a video message, spoke about the blessings and joy the month of Ramadan brings to Muslims.

“Ramadan reminds all of us that we can put the needs of others before our own,” the Canadian Prime Minister said in a video message posted on his Facebook page. In the end, Prime Minister Trudeau, on behalf of his family, wished Muslims a peaceful Ramadan.

Further to this, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an audio message, hailed the Holy Prophet Muhammad for propagating the messages of peace, love, unity, and brotherhood throughout his life.

He also recalled an anecdote from Islam wherein the Prophet Muhammad professed that the two foremost teachings of Islam were – 1) the feeding of poor and needy and 2) meeting everyone amiably whether you know them or not.

When speaking about the fasting from dawn-to-dusk, he said, “the central aspect of Roza is that when a person is hungry, he understands hunger suffered by others. When he himself is thirsty, he understands the thirst suffered by others. This is the occasion to remember the teachings and the message of the Paighambar Mohammad Sahab. It is our duty to follow his life’s path of equality and brotherhood.”

“He was of the faith that if your possessions are more than what you require, you should give it to someone who needs it, that is why charity holds a significant place in Ramadan,” he added

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his message by saying, “I extend my greetings to all the citizens on the pious month of Ramadan, and I have complete faith that this occasion will inspire us all to follow his message of peace and goodwill.”The Muslims will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on 14th or 15th June depending on the visual sightings of the crescent moon.
