4 killed, 4 injured in IED blast in Parachinar

IED Blast Deepens Crisis in Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Four people were killed and four others were injured in an IED blast in the Sharamkhel area of Parachinar, in Upper Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday.

The district police officer has confirmed the casualties and has informed that the police team has launched an investigation at the site of the explosion. The DPO added that security forces have cordoned off the area, and a thorough search operation is underway. Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.

Medical Superintendent Mir Hassan Jaan said the injured include Mohammad Konan, Shafaat Hussain, and Hassan Ghulam. They were given first aid at the DHQ Parachinar and later shifted to Peshawar for specialized treatment.

Tragically, two horses also died in the blast, highlighting the widespread impact of the attack.

The blast occurred when the victims, along with their horses, were heading towards a nearby hill to collect wood, narrates one of the survivors, Ghulam. District Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kurram, Amir Nawaz, also visited the injured in the hospital to inquire about their health.

Whereas the tribal leaders in the area have strongly condemned the IED blast, they have called for the security forces to immediately arrest the perpetrators and initiate a high-level investigation.

Parachinar has been a flashpoint of tribal clashes leading to sectarian violence in the past few months. In December, more than 100 people lost their lives during tribal clashes. Security forces have been urged to maintain law and order in the region.

Clashes that peaked in November 2024 reported 102 deaths and left 138 injured. Clashes continued in various areas, along with the closure of roads that led to disruptions in the supply of food, oil, and medicines in the area. Deaths mainly happened during the fire exchange between the tribes.
