Aleema Khan’s Son Shershah Detained After Shahrez’s Arrest

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore granted an eight-day physical remand of Imran Khan’s nephew, Shahrez Khan, in the May 9 Jinnah House attack case, a day after his arrest. Meanwhile, PTI claimed that Aleema Khan’s other son, Shershah, was also “abducted” in connection with the riots.

Another son of Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was arrested in Lahore on Friday in connection with the May 9 riots, according to the SSP Investigation, who added that the matter is still under probe.

The development comes a day after Imran Khan’s jailed nephew, Shahrez Khan, was taken into custody in the Jinnah House attack case linked to the May 9 violence — the riots that broke out across the country following the PTI founder’s arrest in a corruption case in 2023.

On its official X account, the PTI claimed that following Shahrez’s arrest, Aleema Khan’s other son, Shershah, had also been “abducted.”

Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore granted police an eight-day physical remand of Shahrez in the Jinnah House attack case. The police had sought a 30-day remand, but ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul announced the shorter custody after hearing arguments from both sides.

During the proceedings, Shahrez’s counsel, Advocate Salman Akram Raja, argued that his client had been arrested two years after the incident, pointing out that Shahrez’s mother, Aleema, had already been discharged from the same case. He insisted his client had no role in PTI’s political affairs and urged the court to dismiss the charges.

The police, however, opposed the request, claiming Shahrez was directly involved in the Jinnah House attack. DSP Asif Javed presented the case record in court, asserting the suspect’s role in the violence.

Following arguments, the court reserved its decision before eventually granting the eight-day remand.

Shahrez had been taken into custody on Thursday, with police confirming his arrest on Friday morning after reports surfaced that he was “taken by armed men” from his Lahore residence. DIG Investigation Zeeshan Raza said Shahrez was wanted in May 9-related cases and would face trial, stressing that “those involved in anti-state activities do not deserve any leniency.”

PTI, however, termed the arrest an “abduction.” A party spokesperson alleged that Shahrez was tortured in front of his two children, while men in plain clothes broke into Aleema Khan’s residence, harassing both the family and staff.

Raja, who also serves as PTI’s secretary-general, wrote on X that Aleema’s home had been “attacked” and her son “abducted.”

The Jinnah House attack remains one of the most high-profile incidents of the May 9, 2023 unrest, when PTI supporters, enraged by Imran Khan’s arrest, vandalized public and private property, attacked military installations — including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and Lahore’s Jinnah House — and desecrated monuments of martyrs.
