At least five people, including an assistant commissioner, were killed in a terrorist attack on a government vehicle in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district on Wednesday. Eleven other people were also injured in the blast.
There has been a surge in terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan since the beginning of this year. Banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, leading to a renewed wave of attacks across the country.
According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan now ranks second among countries most affected by terrorism, underscoring the deteriorating security landscape.
“The blast was so intense that the vehicle targeted was destroyed,” he said. Bajaur District Police Officer Waqas Rafiq said that five people, including two policemen and a civilian, were killed in an explosion targeting the vehicle on Nawagai Road in Khar Tehsil’s Sadqabad area. The deceased include Nawagai Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, Tehsildar Abdul Waqeel, Subedar Noor Hakim, and Police Constable Rashid, according to the DPO.
“An emergency has been imposed in Bajaur hospitals and health department staff have been alerted for first aid,” he said in a statement.
