The family of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has received his medical report from the authorities of Central Jail Rawalpindi, commonly known as Adiala Jail, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed on Friday.
Mr Imran Khan’s family shared a report by PIMS summarising treatments that Mr Khan underwent which confirms the diagnosis of CRVO.

According to the minister, the report was issued following Khan’s recent transfer from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where he underwent an eye-related medical procedure last month. Tarar had earlier stated that the PTI founder underwent a brief medical procedure lasting approximately 20 minutes. However, details of the treatment emerged days later, triggering strong criticism and protests from PTI leaders, who accused the government of concealing information about Khan’s health.
The medical report, issued by PIMS Executive Director Professor Dr Rana Imran Sikandar, states that Imran Khan, 74, had complained of reduced vision in his right eye. A senior ophthalmologist from PIMS conducted a comprehensive eye examination at Adiala Jail, including a slit lamp examination, fundoscopy, measurement of intraocular pressure, essential laboratory investigations, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the retina.

Based on the findings, doctors diagnosed Khan with right central retinal vein occlusion, a condition that affects blood flow in the retina and can impair vision. The report recommended hospital-based follow-up treatment, prompting his transfer to PIMS for the advised procedure.
According to the report, the procedure was carried out in the hospital’s operation theatre under standard sterile conditions and continuous medical monitoring. The treatment was completed smoothly in approximately 20 minutes without any reported complications.
The report further noted that Khan remained visually stable during and after the procedure. He was subsequently discharged with routine post-procedure care instructions and returned to custody.
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 in multiple cases, and his health has remained a politically sensitive issue, with PTI repeatedly raising concerns over his medical treatment while in detention.
