The brother of Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, Chinesa Town Chairman Farhan Ghani, has been arrested in Karachi on charges of terrorism and attempted murder after allegedly assaulting a government employee during fibre optic work.

Brother of Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani has been arrested by Sindh Police in a case of assaulting a government employee. FIR has been lodged against Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani on terrorism and attempted murder charges. Saeed Ghani says this is not a political matter and they will be addressing it through legal means.

Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani and the younger brother of senior Pakistan People’s Party leader and local government minister Saeed Ghani were booked, arrested, and remanded on a terrorism and attempted murder case for allegedly assaulting a government employee who was carrying out the work of laying a fibre optic network on Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi.

In a statement, Saeed Ghani, who is also the President of the People’s Party Karachi Division, said that a dispute occurred on Shahrai Faisal within the remit of Chinesa Town and a first information report was registered against his brother Farhan and some others. Earlier the Ferozabad Police registered a case under section 147 rioting, 148 rioting, armed with deadly weapon, 149 every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object, 186 obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions, 324 attempted murder, 342 wrongful confinement, 353 assault or criminal force to deter public servants from discharge of his duty, 379 theft, 506B criminal intimidation and 34 common intention of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant, Hafiz Sohail Jadoon, told the police that he is a government employee and was supervising the fibre optic network laying work on Shahrai Faisal on August 22. He stated that around 4.47 pm, around 20-25 persons, including Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan, in his three vehicles arrived there and asked him if he had permission to dig up the road at Shahrai Faisal. He said that he told them that he had all the permissions from the relevant departments, and he has been carrying out the work officially. However, despite that, Farhan and his men misbehaved with them and asked him to stop the work immediately. The complainant said that when he insisted that he had all the required non-objection certificates, they started using smear language and started beating him.

He said that they dragged him at gunpoint to a room of a nearby fuel station, where they locked him up in illegal confinement and continued beating him. In the meantime, the police team arrived, rescued the worker, and took him to the police station, where the FIR was lodged. On Sunday, the investigation officer produced three suspects, including Mr Farhan, before Judicial Magistrate East Wasim Abbas and sought their one-day police custody. The IO informed the court that the suspects had been arrested on terrorism charges and their custody was required to apprehend their remaining accomplices with their help and to check their criminal record.

He further submitted that since the case was registered under terrorism charges and the ACTs remained closed on Sunday, he was seeking their one-day custody to produce them before the Concerned Anti-Terrorism Court for remand. The duty magistrate granted one-day physical custody of the suspects and directed them to produce them before the Administrative Judge of the ACTs on Monday.
