Five police officials, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) during a terrorist attack on a police van in Shakardara area on Tuesday in the outskirts of Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to the details, the attack occurred when a police team led by DSP Lachi Asad Mehmood Khan was taking detainees for investigation. Terrorists opened sudden and indiscriminate firing on the vehicle.
Those who embraced martyrdom include DSP Asad Mehmood Khan, Inspector Anar Gul Khan, the DSP’s drivers, the DSP’s reader Wahab Gul, Constable Mudassar, and police official Syed Ameer Abbas, son of Syed Murtaza.
Two detainees, Yousuf Khan, son of Yaqub Gul, and Samyoullah, son of Muhammad Anwar, also lost their lives in the incident. Three police officials, including Zahoor Khan, Aqab Hussain, and Mohib Rahman, sustained serious injuries in the firing and were immediately shifted to the hospital.
Heavy contingent of Kohat police reached the scene following the attack. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi has taken notice of the incident of the DSP and other police officials in firing by terrorists in Kohat and has strongly condemned the incident.
The Chief Minister has sought a report from the Inspector General of Police on the incident. Expressing his views on the incident, Afridi said that the incident, the terrorist attack is extremely tragic and the sacrifices of martyrs The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were the first line of defence against terrorism and their sacrifices are unforgettable.
The cowardly attacks of terrorists cannot shake the resolve of the police, the Chief Minister said. Afridi further added that the provincial government stood in complete solidarity with the families of the martyrs and equally shared their grief. He also prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and the patience for the families of the victims.
He has also directed authorities to ensure provision of the best possible medical facilities to the injured and also prayed for their speedy recovery. Earlier, a day before, on Monday, three FC personnel were martyred and several others injured in a series of terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A drone strike targeted an FC Fort and a subsequent assault set ablaze ambulances carrying the wounded. Police claims that the terrorists belonging to the banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, described by Pakistan government as Fitna al-Khawarij, had launched a drone attack on an FC Fort near Bahadar Khel area.
As a result of the attack, which took place within the jurisdiction of Five personnel, Havildar Sabir, Sepoy Amin, Sepoy Zohaib, Sepoy Murad, and Sepoy Yousuf were injured. Kurram district police officer Saeed Khan said contingents of security forces and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene immediately after the attack, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation.

The injured personnel were taken to the hospital when terrorists launched a second attack on the ambulances and set the vehicles ablaze with the wounded inside.
Three FC personnel were martyred in the assault while five individuals, including a rescue official, sustained injuries. The injured rescue staff were shifted to hospital in Bannu for treatment.
