Google Gemini expands across Android devices

Gemini AI expands beyond phones to power Android cars, watches, TVs, headsets, and earbuds with smarter, hands-free assistance.

Google is rolling out its powerful Gemini AI assistant across a vast range of Android-powered devices, marking one of the most ambitious expansions of generative AI into everyday technology. First launched as a smarter replacement for Google Assistant on phones, Gemini is now moving beyond handhelds to wearables, cars, TVs, and even earbuds—promising deeply integrated, context-aware help no matter where users are.

Gemini comes to Android phones — and stays free

The evolution begins on phones, where Gemini is now available to billions of Android users worldwide. Without needing an advanced subscription, users can access features like Gemini Live, which supports real-time screen sharing and camera-based interaction. With just a button press, Gemini becomes a personal assistant capable of handling device-wide tasks in natural language—from setting reminders to summarizing messages and browsing emails.

Smartwatches Get Smarter

In the coming months, Gemini will arrive on Wear OS smartwatches, including Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7. The assistant enables hands-free help for users who are on the go—whether jogging, cooking, or cycling. With a simple voice command, you can set reminders (like “locker 43 at the gym”), ask about restaurants from an old email, or get quick updates without touching your phone.

Gemini offers more fluid, context-aware interactions than its predecessor. For example, it can recall stored information, summarize emails, and provide intelligent responses—all directly from your wrist.

Driving Gets an Upgrade with Gemini in Cars

Gemini is also making its way to Android Auto and cars with Google Built-In, in what Google calls one of the biggest transformations in in-vehicle experience in years. The AI assistant will replace Google Assistant with more conversational, natural interactions—without needing robotic phrasing or multiple taps.

Features include:

  • Sending messages and translating them automatically based on contact preferences
  • Searching for places along a route (e.g., “taco spots with vegan options”)
  • Planning pit stops, like finding a charging station next to a park
  • Real-time news recaps, book summaries, and more via Gemini Live, which stays actively engaged and ready for full conversation

While initial deployment will rely on cloud processing, Google is working with carmakers to enable on-device AI processing for better speed and reliability.

Gemini on TVs and Android XR Headsets

Later in 2025, Gemini will also debut on Google TV, offering tailored suggestions for family-friendly movies and educational YouTube content for kids. In collaboration with Samsung, Google is also introducing Android XR, a platform that integrates Gemini into headsets and smart glasses. When Samsung’s first headset launches, Gemini will enable immersive experiences—like building travel itineraries by surrounding users with videos, maps, and tips in virtual space.

Finally, Gemini is coming to select earbuds, starting with Galaxy Buds 3 and Sony models. Users can access Gemini via voice or pinch-and-hold gestures on their Galaxy Buds, with capabilities like message summaries and assistant support without needing a screen. While visual confirmation won’t be possible, the earbuds will still allow for AI-powered interactions through the connected smartphone.
