Imran Khan Undergoes Eye Procedure at PIMS Amid Family Concerns, Confirms Atta Tarar

PTI founder taken under strict security for 20-minute eye treatment; family demands access and public disclosure of medical reports

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday confirmed that incarcerated former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan underwent a medical procedure for his eye last week in Islamabad.

Speaking to the local private channel, Tarar said that the former Prime Minister, who is imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail, was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for a 20-minute medical procedure on the night of January 24. Following the procedure, the former Prime Minister was taken back to Adiala jail with important instructions.

“Eye experts examined him in Adiala jail, after which they recommended that it was necessary to take him to Pims for a small medical process. Last Saturday night, he was taken to Pims on the recommendation of these eye doctors and experts,” Tarar said.

He added that at Pims, Imran’s “eyes were further examined, and after his written approval, a 20-minute medical procedure was performed”.

“During the medical procedure, his vitals and everything were stable. He’s absolutely healthy,” Tarar stated.

Tarar said that the minister that the old prisoners have access to doctors and medical treatments when such an issue arises. Tarar, however, when asked about the health concerns regarding Imran Khan, Tarar retreated that PTI founder and the former Prime Minister Imran Khan is absolutely fine. The minister stressed that it was the medical experts, that it was the opinions of the medical experts to take Imran Khan to PIMS for a medical procedure.

The party sources his family and his sons have been protesting against and demanding them to allow, demanding the government authorities to allow them to meet Imran Khan after hearing that he had, after hearing credible reports regarding him diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, resulting in a dangerous blockage in the retinal vein. The party believes that party, his party citing medical experts, believes that if he is not treated promptly and properly, the disease can cause permanent damage to his eyesight.

On Tuesday, earlier this week, PTI MNAs have also filed a fresh petition before the Islamabad High Court seeking permission to meet Imran Khan. According to the senior doctor at the hospital who confirmed that Imran Khan was brought to the hospital in strict security on Saturday night for the procedure which took quite some time.

The doctor said that there was an extraordinary movement on Saturday night in the operation theatres and the anesthesia room were cordoned off ahead of Imran Khan’s arrival at PIMS.

“I am a sister, and today my question is directed towards the corridors of power. According to multiple journalists and media sources, our brother, Imran Khan, was taken under the cover of the night to the PIMS Hospital on the pretext of eye treatment. He was kept there for three hours, and then transferred back to Adiala Jail in an atmosphere of extreme mystery and terrifying silence,” she said in a tweet on X.

Noreen Niaza asked further, “Why does no one have the courage to tell the truth to Imran Khan’s family and lawyers? Who is this being hidden from, and on whose orders? What treatment is our brother being subjected to inside the jail, and why are our family and lawyers being kept in the dark?”

She called Imran Khan the hope of the nation. She warned the government that, “This is no longer a request, it is a final warning! Immediately allow Imran Khan’s family, personal doctors, and lawyers to meet him, make his complete medical reports public, and inform the nation why and in what conditions our brother was taken to the hospital under the cover of the night.”
