India Among Countries Invited to Join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ on Gaza

India has received an invitation from the United States to join former President Donald Trump’s proposed Board of Peace, a body intended to oversee next steps and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, alongside several other countries.

U.S. President Donald Trump has invited India to join his “Board of Peace” initiative aimed at resolving global conflicts, according to a White House statement on Sunday, shared in a post on X,by Washington’s ambassador to New Delhi, Sergio Gor.

It was not clear whether India would join the initiative, which will initially focus on Gaza. India’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The invitation to India comes as ties between New Delhi and Washington are under strain due to the failure to secure a trade deal that would lower tariffs on India’s exports to the U.S. that are facing a levy of 50% currently, among the highest in the world.

Trump has extended invitations to some 60 countries for the initiative, including India’s neighbour Pakistan, whose government said earlier in the day that it would engage in international efforts for peace and security in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.

Eight more countries beside India says that they have received an invitation from the United States of America to join the President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. This Board of Peace is established to oversee next steps in Gaza. It will contain the board will be comprised of world leaders that will show ambitions for a broader mandate in global affairs.

Two of the countries, Hungary and Vietnam, have said that they have accepted the offer extended by the United States. A dollar one billion contribution secures permanent membership on the Trump-led board instead of a three-year appointment, which has no contribution requirement, according to the U.S. official who spoke on the condition of anonymity about the charter, which hasn’t been made public.

Meanwhile, Vietnam’s Communist Party chief told him also has accepted the invitation, said the foreign ministry in a statement.

Australia confirms that they have received the invitation and will talk it through with the U.S. President to properly understand what this means and what’s involved. The Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles told Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday. Jordan, Greece, Cyprus and Pakistan on Sunday said that they had received invitations.

Meanwhile, Canada, Turkey, Egypt, Paraguay, Argentina and Albania also confirmed that they are being invited. It is not clear so far that how many countries have been invited and how many of them have formally accepted the invitation. Trump is also expected to extend invitations through the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos in Switzerland.
