Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend the G7 summit going to happen in Canada. According to international media reports, India has not received the invitation so far, hence, the participation in the summit is unlikely.
This will be the first time India will not be attending a G7 high-level summit of world leaders in six years. The summit is scheduled to take place and Alberta, Canada, from June 15th to June 17th. The apparent reason for Indian not being invited by Canada to the G7 Summit is the strained relationship between the two countries.
Tensions between the two countries rose in 2033 when Canada accused India of killing separatist Pro-Khalistan leaders on its soil.

Controversy is based on the Killing of Canadian-National Indian separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. Nijar was an advocate of the separatist movement, Khalistan.
Canada publicly accused India of the Killing of Nijjar and expelled six Indian diplomats, including the head of the Mission. In October 2024, Canada accused Indian Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating plans to attack sikh separatist leaders abroad. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison told a parliamentary panel that he had informed a US-based newspaper of Shah’s alleged role.
The report said “India is yet to receive any official invitation for the summit, which is being hosted by Canada from June 15-17,” but also added that the Indian side was not “inclined to attend”. It quoted sources as saying “relations must improve” before any such high-profile visit takes place.
India has been regularly attending the G7 summit since 2019. So far, Canada has not released the list of the official leaders who will be attending the G7 summit. The relations between Canada and India deteriorated during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. India is hopeful for a reset between the relations of the two countries under the new government of Carney.
