Islamabad Rejects Claims of Pakistani Nationals Fighting in Ukraine

Pakistan firmly rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “baseless and unfounded” claims regarding the alleged involvement of Pakistani nationals in the Ukraine conflict, stating that no credible or verifiable evidence has been provided to support such accusations.

The Foreign Office (FO) issued a statement on Tuesday, a day after President Zelensky alleged that Ukrainian forces battling in northeastern Ukraine were encountering foreign “mercenaries” from several countries, including China, Pakistan, and parts of Africa.

He made the claims after visiting the frontline in the Kharkiv region, where he said commanders had briefed him on the situation in Vovchansk and the participation of foreign fighters, including those from Pakistan. Zelensky vowed to respond to this alleged development.

While Zelensky has previously accused Moscow of enlisting Chinese fighters—a claim denied by Beijing—he also alleged that North Korea had sent thousands of its troops to Russia’s Kursk region.

In response, Pakistan’s FO clarified: “The Government of Pakistan categorically rejects the baseless and unfounded allegations regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the Ukraine conflict. So far, no formal communication has been received from Ukrainian authorities, nor has any verifiable evidence been presented.”

The FO further stated that Pakistan intends to raise the matter with Ukraine and will seek clarification over the allegations. It also reiterated Islamabad’s consistent stance in support of a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter.
