Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday approved Rs25 billion to rebuild 315 internal streets and 60 major roads in Karachi, directing all agencies to begin work immediately and ensure that sewerage and drainage systems are installed alongside the new roads.

Chairing a high-level meeting, he also instructed the citywide installation and repair of streetlights and stressed that every newly constructed street must include proper drainage. CM Murad noted that recent heavy rains had badly damaged the roads and urged that ongoing development projects be expedited to ease public inconvenience, warning that delays would not be tolerated.

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab briefed the chief minister on the deteriorating condition of streets, confirming the Rs25bn cost for the reconstruction work. CM Murad said financial resources are not an issue and demanded immediate and high-quality implementation.
He also congratulated the mayor on the inauguration of RO plants in Keamari and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing clean drinking water, improved infrastructure, and better law and order. He added that the Sindh Safe City Project has already helped reduce traffic accidents in the city.
