Major General Ali Shadmani Killed Days After Appointment, Says IDF

Israel’s military has claimed responsibility for killing Major General Ali Shadmani, a top Iranian commander and close aide to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a recent airstrike on a staffed command center in Tehran. Shadmani had been appointed just days earlier as Commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Headquarters—a key operational hub within Iran’s military structure.

In an official statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described Shadmani as the War-Time Chief of Staff and Commander of the Emergency Command for the Iranian Armed Forces, with authority over both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian Army.

Ayatollah Khamenei had appointed Shadmani to this senior post on June 13, following the death of his predecessor, Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, in an earlier Israeli airstrike.

The Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, according to Iranian sources, serves as the main planning and coordination body for Iran’s military operations, overseeing joint activities across its armed forces branches.

This strike comes amid a series of Israeli operations that have killed multiple senior Iranian military leaders. Iran’s Supreme Leader has since announced a reshuffling of top military posts: Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi has been named the new Chief of Staff, replacing Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, who was also killed in a prior strike; Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour has been appointed as Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, following the death of Major General Hossein Salami.
