Man Arrested After Viral Video Shows Alleged Molestation of Minor in Kasur

Police in Kasur arrested a man seen in viral footage allegedly molesting a minor girl. The suspect was injured during a shootout while trying to evade arrest.

A man was arrested on Monday after a video allegedly showing him molesting a minor girl in Kasur, Punjab, went viral on social media.

Kasur District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Isa Khan stated that the suspect was taken into custody with injuries.

According to the police, the incident occurred three days earlier in Shah Inayat Colony, where the suspect allegedly assaulted a young girl playing in the street.

After the video surfaced online, DPO Khan instructed Station House Officer Asif Javed to apprehend the suspect within 24 hours. Authorities later located him on Dhanpat Road. During the attempted arrest, the suspect reportedly drew a pistol in an effort to flee. He was shot during an exchange of gunfire and arrested in an injured condition. He was then shifted to Kasur District Hospital for medical treatment.

The police statement stressed that, under the Punjab chief minister’s vision, any form of sexual violence against women and children would not be tolerated.

A recent civil society report titled Cruel Numbers 2024, published by Sahil, revealed that 3,364 cases of child abuse were reported across Pakistan last year. The data, collected from 81 national and regional newspapers, highlights incidents involving sexual abuse, abductions, missing children, and child marriages involving individuals under 18.

Kasur has previously been the focus of national attention for such crimes. In January 2018, six-year-old Zainab Amin was found dead in a garbage heap five days after going missing. A postmortem revealed signs of possible rape and strangulation.

Her case triggered nationwide outrage, prompting swift action from law enforcement. The perpetrator, Imran Ali, was convicted and executed in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on October 17, 2018.

The brutality of the crime sparked protests in Kasur — resulting in two deaths — and led to widespread calls for justice under the #JusticeforZainab campaign.

In response, the National Assembly passed the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Bill in 2019, aimed at fast-tracking investigations and ensuring stricter punishments for those involved in crimes against children.
