Medical Team Reports Progress in Imran Khan’s Vision at Adiala Jail

Imran Khan’s eye condition has shown significant improvement, according to a five-member medical team that examined him at Adiala jail. Authorities have forwarded his full medical records to the Punjab Home Department, while PTI and opposition lawmakers continue protesting for his hospital transfer.

The eye condition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has reportedly shown significant improvement, according to sources, after a five-member medical team, including eye specialists, conducted an examination at Adiala jail on Sunday.

Sources indicated that the doctors are optimistic about further improvement with ongoing treatment. The examination, which lasted approximately an hour, included Dr. Afaq, Dr. Sikandar, and Dr. Arif among the attending physicians.

This evaluation was carried out to comply with a Supreme Court deadline requiring a comprehensive medical report to be submitted by February 16. Last week, Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, visited him in jail and later submitted a report to the Chief Justice Yahya Afridi-led bench, highlighting concerns and requesting appropriate treatment for his client.

Jail authorities have forwarded Khan’s medical records to the Punjab Home Department. These records include detailed charts of his vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and blood sugar levels, along with a report on his eye condition, consultation notes, and information about the medical staff involved in his care. On-duty doctors reportedly monitor and record vital signs three times daily, and these assessments are compiled regularly.

The recent development follows a report from two weeks ago revealing that Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, was diagnosed with a serious eye condition known as central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). CRVO typically affects older adults and is associated with cardiovascular risk factors, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.

After the diagnosis, PTI and Khan’s family expressed concern about his health and demanded his transfer to a hospital for treatment. While the federal government has assured that all necessary medical facilities are being provided, PTI lawmakers and members of the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aiyeen Pakistan (TTAP) began a sit-in at Parliament House on March 13, insisting on Khan’s hospital transfer. The protest, now in its third day, is ongoing at Parliament House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, and the Parliament Lodges, with participation from National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, and former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
