MI facilitating Aleema Khan: Ali Amin accuses sister of former PM Imran Khan

Aleema Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur trade accusations, deepening PTI’s internal rift and fueling rumors of family-versus-party tensions.

Internal rift in Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, the party of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, has intensified after senior party leader Ali Amin Gandapur, the CM of Khabar Pakhtunkhwa, where PTI is leading, and Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, publicly accused each other on Tuesday.

The recent spat seems to have strengthened ongoing rumors of rifts in the party regarding the ownership and affairs of the party. The series of allegations began when Ms. Aleema Khan, speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had complained to her with former Prime Minister — and her brother — Imran Khan. She further alleged that Gandapur accused her of maintaining secret links with the military intelligence agency.

According to her, CM Gandapur had told Imran Khan that Alima Khan is trying to hijack the party with the help of an intelligence agency.

Speaking about the meeting, the claims made by Aleema Khan came a day after Mr. Gandapur met Imran Khan in jail and had a two-hour-long meeting. He left the premises without talking to the media persons.

Family feud vs. party politics:

Speaking about the meeting, Aleema Khan claimed that Imran Khan told her that Ali Amin Gandapur had contacted him to record a complaint against her. “Ali Amin said that I am in contact with the MI (Military Intelligence) and want to become the party chairman,” she said, adding that Imran would remain the chairman.

In the late-night video message, CM Gandapur confirmed that he complained to Imran Khan about his sister allegedly trying to split the party with the backing of military intelligence. He confirmed that there was a rift in the party, and Aleema Khan, with the help of some vloggers, was trying to provoke the party workers against him and to discredit the party leaders.

He said he told the party founder that the factions were working for their vested interests and that he heard the campaign for his release. Gandapur further alleged that Aleema Khan was trying to divide the party, adding that her son was released in a few days while scores of party workers, including Imran Khan himself, were languishing in jail for months.

Last month, both the sons of Aleema Khan were arrested but later released after court proceedings. He further alleged that Hafizullah Niazi, a relative of Imran Khan, was running a campaign for Aleema Khan as the PTI chairman. Meanwhile, the acting PTI leader, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, has defended Aleema Khan, saying that the three sisters of Imran Khan only come to meet him in jail and have nothing to do with politics.

“I want to say that all three sisters of Imran Khan have nothing to do with politics and they come to Adiala jail only to meet their brother,” he said earlier in the day.

No one in the family wanted to become the party chairman, he said. “I have not heard about it, but I know some people have been trying to create controversy. I don’t think that Ali Amin had said that, and if he [Ali Amin] did, I condemn it,” Barrister Gohar said.
