Naseem Shah sparks controversy with ‘queen’ jibe at Maryam Nawaz’s PSL appearance

Naseem Shah sparked controversy after a ‘queen’ jibe at Maryam Nawaz during the PSL opener surfaced on his X account.

Naseem Shah briefly found himself at the centre of controversy after a post from his official X (formerly Twitter) account appeared to mock Maryam Nawaz. The post, which quickly gained traction online, was deleted within minutes, prompting speculation and backlash from users on social media.

The incident occurred during the opening match of the Pakistan Super League 2026 at Gaddafi Stadium, where Maryam Nawaz was उपस्थित as the guest of honour. As the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, her appearance drew significant attention. The now-deleted post from Shah’s account appeared to take a sarcastic jab at her presence, which many interpreted as inappropriate given the high-profile nature of the event.

As criticism mounted, Naseem Shah moved quickly to distance himself from the controversy. In a follow-up statement posted shortly after the deletion, he claimed that his account had been hacked and that he had not authored the controversial message. “This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully,” the clarification read, suggesting that the post was made without his knowledge or consent.

Despite the explanation, the incident has sparked debate online, with some users questioning the hacking claim while others urged caution before jumping to conclusions. So far, no official action has been taken against the young pacer.

Shah, who is set to represent the Rawalpindi Pindiz—one of the new franchises in this year’s PSL—will be hoping to shift focus back to his performance on the field as the tournament progresses.
