Netflix is set to release a new documentary titled Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, which explores the tragic implosion of the submersible Titan during a deep-sea expedition to the Titanic wreck site. The incident, which occurred in the North Atlantic, claimed the lives of all five individuals on board — including prominent Pakistani businessman and Engro Corp Vice Chairman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman.
Directed by Mark Monroe, the documentary will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 6 and will begin streaming on Netflix from June 11, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is produced by the Story Syndicate team, known for acclaimed titles like Take Care of Maya, Gone Girls, and Britney vs Spears.

Netflix describes the documentary as an in-depth look at how “a bold vision ended in tragedy.” Using interviews, audio and video recordings, and firsthand accounts, the film examines the decisions and ambitions of OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who spearheaded the ill-fated voyage.
In the trailer, which runs for approximately a minute and a half, one interviewee starkly remarks, “There was no way of knowing when Titan was going to fail, but it was a mathematical certainty that it would fail.” Another criticizes Rush’s leadership, saying, “I thought Stockton was a borderline psychopath. How do you manage a person like that who owns the company?” One voice alleges that Rush was driven by a desire for fame to satisfy his ego.

Audio clips of Rush himself are also featured, including haunting words such as: “I have no desire to die. I understand this risk. No one is dying under my watch.”
Produced by Mark Monroe, Lily Garrison, and Jon Bardin, Titan: The OceanGate Disaster revisits the harrowing events of June 2023, when the OceanGate-owned submersible imploded during its descent on June 18. The catastrophe was officially confirmed on June 22, bringing a dramatic, global search effort to a grim conclusion.
