No More Centre Visits: New App Eases Australian Visa Procedure for Pakistanis

Australia has introduced a mobile app allowing eligible Pakistani citizens to complete visa biometrics using their smartphones, streamlining the application process

The Australian government has introduced a simplified visa application process for Pakistani citizens with the launch of a new mobile application.

Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tim Kane, shared the update on X, noting that it is now easier for eligible Pakistanis to apply for an Australian visa.

The newly introduced Australian Immi App, already operating in multiple countries, is now available in Pakistan. It enables applicants to upload their passport information and facial biometrics directly from their smartphones, significantly reducing both time and cost by eliminating unnecessary visits to visa centres and simplifying identity verification.

However, the feature is only available to applicants who have received a biometrics instruction letter containing a Visa Lodgement Number (VLN) starting with AUI or AUH. Applicants with other VLN formats must still visit an Australian Biometrics Collection Centre (ABCC).

How the app works

To use the app, applicants need:

A valid passport

A smartphone with a strong internet connection

Camera access enabled

NFC function turned on

Location services activated

Once installed, the application follows a five-step process:

Enter your VLN
Each applicant, including family members, must enter their own Visa Lodgement Number.

Scan your passport
The app uses the phone’s camera and NFC to capture details from your passport. Ensure the page is fully visible with no glare or shadows.

  1. Verify scanned information
The scanned details will appear on the screen. If anything is incorrect, simply rescan.

  2. Capture a live photo
Stand against a plain background, look straight into the camera, remove glasses if possible, and avoid shadows. The app will automatically take the photo once aligned properly.

  3. Submit your identity check
You may enter an email address for confirmation. Once submitted, your passport data and photo are securely sent to Australia’s Department of Home Affairs. The app does not retain any personal information after submission.

If all details are correctly provided, there will be no need to visit an ABCC. Your ImmiAccount will be updated within 24 hours. If additional information is required, the department will contact you directly.
