Pakistan denies Iranian claims of nuclear support against Israel

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif Refutes Viral Statement, Reaffirms Pakistan's Peaceful Nuclear Policy

Pakistan denies the recent claims made by a senior military official of Iran that Pakistan would launch a nuclear strike on Israel in case it launched a nuclear attack on Iran.

The video recently went viral on social media in which a senior Iranian official was heard saying that Pakistan has given Iran assurance that if Israel nukes Iran, Pakistan would attack Israel with its nuclear weapons.

“Pakistan has told us that if Israel uses a nuclear bomb on Iran, then Pakistan will also attack Israel with a nuclear bomb,” General Mohsen Rezaei, an IRGC commander and member of Iran’s National Security Council, said on Iranian state television.

Pakistan has swiftly denied these statements. The comments from the IRGC official came amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. The conflict between the two countries has entered its third day, with both countries attacking each other fearlessly.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif denied the statements circulating on social media in a post on Sunday night. Asif in a post on Sunday said, Pakistan has not given any such assurances to Iran.

“The world should be wary and apprehensive about Israel’s nuclear prowess, a country not bound by any international nuclear discipline, not signatory to NPT or any other binding arrangement. Pakistan is a signatory to all international nuclear disciplines. Our nuclear capability is for the benefit of our people and the defence of our country against the hostile designs of our enemies.”

“We do not pursue hegemonic policies against our neighbours, which are being amply demonstrated by Israel these days. The Western world must worry about conflicts being generated by Israel; it will engulf the whole region and beyond. Their patronage of Israel, a rogue state, can have catastrophic consequences,” said Khwaja Asif in a statement on X.
