Pakistan joins President Trump’s Board of Peace on Gaza

Islamabad backs U.S.-led peace initiative as regional powers agree to support Gaza ceasefire, aid delivery, and reconstruction under UN mandate.

Pakistan will join US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” to help achieve lasting peace in Gaza, its foreign ministry said on Wednesday.

Pakistan hoped “concrete steps will be taken towards the implementation of a permanent ceasefire” as well as to boost aid and Gaza’s reconstruction, the ministry said in a statement.

The announcement came after Pakistani army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir flew to Davos, three Pakistani officials told Reuters.

Munir, along with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, is likely to see Trump, they said.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to disclose the information to the media.

Pakistan army’s public relations wing did not respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The board, set up late last year under Trump’s Gaza plan, is aimed at resolving global conflicts.

Some countries have reacted with caution to the initiative, although the U.S. has said that over 20 countries have agreed to join so far. Pakistan was invited by Trump to join the board, the ministry said.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan released the statement on Wednesday night, announcing Pakistan’s decision to join the President Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’,

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Türkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the State of Qatar welcome the invitation extended to their leaders by the President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, to join the Board of Peace.

“The Ministers announce their countries’ shared decision to join the Board of Peace. Each country will sign the joining documents  according to its respective relevant legal and other necessary procedures, including Egypt, Pakistan, and the UAE, that have already announced to join.”

“The Ministers reiterate their countries’ support for the peace efforts led by President Trump, and reaffirm their countries’ commitment to supporting the implementation of the mission of the Board of Peace as a transitional administration, as set out in the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict and endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, aimed at consolidating a permanent ceasefire, supporting the reconstruction of Gaza, and advancing a just and lasting peace grounded in the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood in accordance with international law, thereby paving the way for security and stability for all countries and peoples of the region,” rhe statement read further.
