Pakistan Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Pakistan has announced its decision to recommend Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in de-escalating recent tensions with India.

The government of Pakistan has officially announced its decision to recommend former US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “decisive diplomatic intervention” and “pivotal leadership” during the recent Pakistan-India crisis.

In a statement released on X, the federal government condemned what it described as “unprovoked and unlawful Indian aggression” — a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity — which resulted in the tragic deaths of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly.

Pakistan stated that in response, it launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos — a “measured, resolute, and precise military operation” aimed at restoring deterrence and defending its territorial integrity while “consciously avoiding civilian casualties.”

Amid escalating tensions, the statement credited President Trump with demonstrating “great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship” by engaging diplomatically with both Islamabad and New Delhi. His intervention, according to the statement, helped secure a ceasefire, de-escalate the conflict, and prevent a broader regional war.

The government described Trump as a “genuine peacemaker” with a steadfast commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue. It also acknowledged Trump’s previous “sincere offers” to mediate the longstanding Kashmir conflict, which Pakistan believes remains central to peace and stability in South Asia.

The statement emphasized that “durable peace in South Asia will remain elusive” without the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

It concluded by lauding Trump’s “pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building efforts,” expressing hope that his role would contribute to wider regional and global stability — especially amid ongoing crises in the Middle East, including Gaza and tensions involving Iran.

Last month, Trump stated that the US had successfully mediated talks that led to a ceasefire between the nuclear-armed neighbors, urging both to focus on trade rather than conflict.

However, India denied any US involvement in the ceasefire negotiations. According to Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified to Trump during a phone call that the ceasefire was the result of direct military communication between India and Pakistan, without any external mediation.

The recent hostilities, the worst in decades, were triggered by a deadly April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) that killed 26 people, mostly tourists. New Delhi accused Islamabad of being behind the attack — an allegation Pakistan firmly rejected.

In retaliation for Indian airstrikes, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos and claimed to have shot down six Indian Air Force jets, including three Rafales. After four days of conflict, both sides agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.

Despite India’s repeated denial of any US diplomatic role, Pakistan has consistently credited Trump for helping to broker peace — a claim Trump himself has frequently made, along with offers to mediate the Kashmir dispute. The US State Department has also acknowledged this position.

Speaking to reporters in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump lamented that he had not been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize despite his diplomatic efforts during his presidency. He mentioned his role in normalizing economic ties between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as his involvement in efforts regarding Rwanda, Congo, and the India-Pakistan conflict.

“I should have won it four or five times,” Trump said. “But they won’t give it to me because they only give it to liberals,” he added.

According to the Nobel Committee, the Peace Prize honors contributions in arms control, peace negotiations, democracy, human rights, and initiatives aimed at building a more peaceful and orderly world.
