Pakistan Wins Hearts at UN by Calling Out Israel’s “Aggressor-Victim” Narrative

Pakistan’s envoy to the UN delivered a powerful rebuke of Israel at the Security Council, accusing it of violating international law while posing as a victim. His speech won praise for exposing Israel’s impunity and resonated with those calling for accountability after the Doha strike

Pakistan’s representative to the United Nations strongly criticized Israel during a Security Council session on Thursday, accusing it of violating international law while presenting itself as a victim.

“It is unacceptable—indeed ludicrous—for an aggressor, an occupier, and a serial violator of the UN Charter and international law, namely Israel, to misuse this chamber and disrespect the sanctity of this council,” Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said.

He continued, “Israel is an occupying power that listens to no one, not even its own allies—if any remain. It not only dismisses international advice but also threatens members of the global community, international media, human rights and humanitarian organizations, as well as the United Nations and its senior officials.”

The Pakistani envoy further accused Israel of acting “with complete impunity, shielded by its apologists who repeatedly endorse its illegal actions and defiance of the international community.”

He went on to liken Israel to “all occupying powers who, despite being the aggressor, feign victimhood.

Ahmad’s remarks came in response to Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, who had compared Israel’s attack on Doha to the 2011 U.S. Navy SEALs operation in Pakistan that killed al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

“When bin Laden was eliminated in Pakistan, no one asked, ‘Why target a terrorist on foreign soil?’” Danon said during the meeting.

The exchange unfolded at an emergency Security Council session convened to discuss Israel’s strike in Doha on Tuesday. Israel claimed the operation targeted Hamas leaders, but it resulted in civilian casualties. Later in the meeting, the Council adopted a statement condemning the attack, affirming Qatar’s sovereignty, and recognizing its role as a mediator in negotiations over Gaza.
