PSL’s Legal Notice Backfires? Tareen’s Video Ignites Social Media Frenzy

Ali Tareen’s sarcastic “apology” video to the PCB — complete with a dramatic tearing of their legal notice — has escalated tensions rather than easing them. Social media users swiftly pounced on the moment, flooding timelines with memes, hot takes, and spirited debate over the future of the PSL

Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has issued the apology the PCB demanded, though he delivered it with a level of sarcasm that feels more like fuel on an already raging fire. The apology comes after the board served him a legal notice, accusing him of violating his franchise agreement by repeatedly criticising the PSL in public.

In a five-minute video posted across his social media platforms, Tareen “apologised” for his recent remarks, all while mocking the board and accusing it of preferring “yes-men and minions.” Holding up the legal notice for viewers to see, he accused the PCB of refusing to work with stakeholders or tolerate dissent. His statements were dripping with irony as he declared:

“Only a big man apologises. I apologise for wanting to improve the PSL. I apologise for raising concerns about clear issues. It’s my fault, not yours, for being disappointed by your mediocre mindset. I apologise for being unhappy that you reward yourselves so generously for doing so little.

The video ended with a flourish: a smirk, a final line — “I hope you like my apology video” — and the dramatic tearing of the legal notice.

The PCB, when contacted by ESPNcricinfo, said it would consult its legal team before responding, since the “apology” technically meets the demand for a public statement but clearly deepens the rift between the two sides.

ESPNcricinfo has reviewed the notice sent on September 12, which accuses Tareen of spreading “false, malicious, baseless, and defamatory” claims ahead of PSL 10. The board alleges that Tareen’s persistent criticism is part of a deliberate attempt to devalue the league, with franchises set to be reassessed later this year, allowing him to purchase the Sultans at a reduced price.
