Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday expressed concern over reports suggesting that the party’s jailed founder and former prime minister Imran Khan is suffering from an eye infection.
Speaking to reporters in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar said he came to know about the issue through media reports, adding that if the information was accurate, it was a matter of serious concern. He stressed the importance of allowing family meetings so Khan’s relatives could be reassured about his health.

Earlier, PTI cited what it described as “credible media reports” claiming that Imran Khan had been diagnosed with Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition involving blockage of the retinal vein. According to the party, medical experts who examined Khan in jail termed the condition extremely sensitive and warned that delayed or inadequate treatment could result in permanent damage to his eyesight.
Reports suggest Mr. Imran Khan may be suffering from central retinal vein occlusion. Although we cannot independently verify this, we are deeply concerned and request that a team from Shaukat Khanum Hospital be granted immediate access to participate in his care.#SKMCH pic.twitter.com/1dSLyTEKo3

In a statement shared on its official X account, PTI alleged that the Adiala Jail administration was insisting that treatment be conducted within the jail premises, despite a specialist doctor reportedly stating that such treatment was not possible without an operation theatre and specialised medical facilities.
The party said this approach placed Khan’s eyesight and overall health at serious risk. It further claimed that the former prime minister was last allowed to consult his personal physician in October 2024, calling the restriction a violation of court orders and fundamental human rights.

PTI demanded that Khan be allowed immediate and unrestricted meetings with his family and close associates, and called for his transfer to Shaukat Khanum Hospital or any reputable medical facility of his choice for proper treatment. The party warned that responsibility for any permanent damage to his eyesight would rest with the government and jail authorities.
Separately, Shaukat Khanum Hospital requested permission for its medical team to examine Khan, expressing concern while noting it could not independently verify the reports.
However, Khan’s sister, Noreen Khan, dismissed the claims, stating that he had no eye-related issues and was in good health. She alleged that misinformation was being spread deliberately to create confusion.
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 and is facing multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Meanwhile, Barrister Gohar reiterated calls for regular family meetings, saying such interactions should remain free of political interference. He also addressed national security, stressing that there should be no compromise or political considerations when dealing with terrorism.
