Rana Sanaullah Says Two Attempts to Reach Deal With PTI Founder Failed

Rana Sanaullah says two major attempts to reach a political understanding with Imran Khan failed after initial agreement, citing a lack of willingness to compromise.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said two serious efforts were made to reach a political understanding with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, but both ultimately collapsed.

Speaking to a private television channel, he said the first initiative—before November 26—was facilitated by Mohsin Naqvi and Ali Amin Gandapur, while a second attempt involved intermediaries from abroad. According to Sanaullah, Khan initially agreed in both instances but later withdrew his consent.

He described Khan as unwilling to pursue compromise, saying his stance reflects rigidity rather than a desire for resolution. Sanaullah also claimed the PTI founder presented unacceptable conditions for any deal, alleging that Khan suggested government figures should take his place in jail.

Drawing a comparison with Nawaz Sharif, Sanaullah said experienced political leaders have historically sought practical paths forward for themselves and their parties. He maintained that neither the government nor the military leadership opposes dialogue, but meaningful negotiations require willingness from all sides.

In a separate interview, Sanaullah addressed PTI’s political activities and Khan’s medical situation, asserting that the former prime minister is receiving the best available treatment and accusing the party of politicizing the issue. He alleged PTI’s actions aim to create instability rather than address Khan’s health concerns.

He also criticized road blockades in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, arguing that provincial authorities are constitutionally bound to follow court orders and cannot justify such measures. Sanaullah concluded that PTI’s actions reflect a broader political strategy and said the party remains unwilling to accept legal outcomes.
