The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan has dismissed as fake the social media posts alleging that President Vladimir Putin had issued threats to Pakistan amid rising tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.
In its statement released on X, the Russian Embassy said that it “Emphasizes that Russia supports the resolution of Pak-Afghan differences through political and diplomatic means and favors the resumption of constructive dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan, two countries friendly to Russia, including on counter-terrorism and regional security issues.”
The Embassy clarified that “The clip actually shows President Putin answering questions from the media after a meeting of the Russian Geographical Society’s Board of Trustees on October 23, 2025. Vladimir Putin did not even mention Pakistan and Afghanistan in his original comments.”
On Wednesday, several pro-Afghan and Indian users on the social media platform On X for sharing video, sharing a video claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin had warned the Pakistan Army and is offering support to Afghanistan amid the ongoing tensions between the two countries. However, the video is now said to be dubbed over and has nothing to do with Pakistan and Afghanistan. Pakistan is currently witnessing military escalation with Afghanistan, and with recent border skirmishes, counter-statements, and allegations.

Defence Minister of Pakistan Khawaja Asif on Wednesday issued a strong warning to the Afghan Taliban, warning them that if they wish to test the resolve of Islamabad, they should do it at their own peril and doom.
The remarks came after an official announcement by Pakistan on Wednesday morning by Information Minister Atta Tarar about the failure of the latest rounds of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which were ongoing in the Turkish capital, aimed at addressing cross-border terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.
Relations between the one-time allies, who share a 2,600-kilometre (1,600-mile) frontier, have soured in recent years over accusations from Islamabad that Afghanistan harbours militant groups which stage attacks in Pakistan.
Of particular concern to Islamabad is the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant group, which Islamabad has been demanding action against.
Pakistan accuses the Taliban authorities of allowing the TTP to use Afghan territory as a “training-cum-logistic base and jump off point for terrorist activities”, according to Tarar’s statement.
The Taliban government has consistently denied the allegations.
