Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Backing for Palestinian Statehood with $90m Aid

Saudi Arabia has transferred a $90 million installment to the Palestinian Authority, reaffirming its financial and political support for Palestinian statehood

The Palestinian Authority received a $90 million installment from Saudi Arabia as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing financial support for the Palestinian government.

Estephan Salameh — the minister of planning and international cooperation and acting finance minister — accepted the tranche at the Saudi Embassy in Amman during a meeting with Saudi Ambassador to Jordan and non-resident envoy to Palestine, Prince Mansour bin Khalid bin Farhan Al-Saud.

According to Wafa, Salameh praised Saudi Arabia for its consistent financial and political backing of the Palestinian people and their pursuit of an independent state.

Prince Mansour noted the Kingdom’s role as co-chair, alongside France, of the high-level international conference in New York that advanced support for the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution. The September conference saw several countries — including the UK, France, Australia, and Canada — recognize Palestinian statehood.

He added that the latest payment is part of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to helping the Palestinian government meet its financial responsibilities.

Prince Mansour also reiterated the Kingdom’s support for bolstering Palestinian resilience and strengthening vital sectors such as health and education.

Saudi Arabia had earlier announced the creation of an emergency international coalition to provide direct financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority, pledging $90 million in September.
