Saudi Police Official assaults pilgrims at Grand Mosque of Makkah

Viral video of Saudi police officer assaulting pilgrims inside Makkah’s Grand Mosque sparks outrage and debate online.

A video of a Saudi police official assaulting pilgrims inside the Grand Mosque of Makkah has gone viral on social media, triggering backlash. The video shows a Saudi guard first inappropriately dragging the women and then pushing a male pilgrim.

Many have described their behavior as rude and inappropriate. The 59-second clip shows the officer dragging the woman who was sitting on the floor in the harem just a few meters away from the holy Kaaba.

Soon, he also appeared to be pushing and assaulting a male pilgrim who was dressed up in Ahram- the white sheets worn by Muslim men to perform the minor pilgrimage.  The male pilgrim seemingly tried to intervene or question his actions.

The reason behind the Saudi police officer assaulting the women remains unclear, as the video does not show what happened before the incident.

However, the behavior of the police officer assaulting the pilgrims has received immense criticism on social media. In a statement released on X, the Saudi officials confirmed the special forces of Hajj and Umrah security have taken action in response to the viral video.

“The Special Forces for Hajj and Umrah Security have commenced — promptly — the apprehension of a person who appeared in visual content violating the instructions and regulations followed in the Grand Mosque,” the statement read.
