Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol unveiled a new statue in London’s Leicester Square to mark the 30th anniversary of their hit movie ‘Dil Wale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ on Thursday.
The video of the ceremony has been widely circulating on social media, showing the two stars joining hands to unveil the statue at London’s iconic Leicester Square. Both Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol personally traveled to London for the ceremony. Photos and videos show the actors standing before their bronze-like forms in the film’s signature pose. Kajol was dressed in an ocean blue saree while Shah Rukh Khan opted for a classic black suit. The film was released in 1995 and is widely known as DDLJ, which earned Rs. 102.5 crores, making it the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Since its release, the movie has continued to entertain audiences, becoming the most successful Indian movie in the history of the Indian film industry.
Shah Rukh Khan had played the character of Raj, a British-Indian young man, while Kajol had played the character of Simran in the movie a young British-Indian woman, who fell in love during a trip to Europe. Part of the movie was shot in London and India.
Nysa and son Yug, children of Kajol, joined the Bollywood stars at the ceremony. All of them posed in front of the statue. The statue captures the pose from the hit song of the movie, Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna, and has joined the likes of Harry Potter, Bridget Jones, Mary Poppins, and Batman in what is dubbed as an ever-growing celebration of movie magic. CEO of Yash Raj Films, Akshay Vidhani, also celebrated the moment in a heartfelt message issued on social media.
Shah Rukh Khan took to X and wrote, “Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Chhoti Chhoti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain, Senorita! Thrilled to unveil the bronze statue of Raj & Simran at London’s Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ)!
