Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi honored at the 90th Academy Awards

Late veteran Bollywood actors Shashi Kapoor and Sridevi were honored at the 90th Oscars ceremony in the ‘Memorian Montage’ that pays tribute to everyone that film industry has lost in the past year.

Former James Bond Roger Moore, French star Jeanne Moreau, actors Martin Landau and Harry Dean Stanton, playwright Sam Shepard and directors George Romero, Jonathan Demme were among the celebrities remembered in the Memoriam.

The stars were honored with a musical tribute by Eddie Vedder who took the stage to sing “Room At The Top” originally sung by Tom Petty in 1999.

Indian actor Shashi Kapoor, 79, died in December 2017 after a prolonged illness. He was the son of actor Prithvi Raj Chauhan and brother of Raj Kapoor, an actor as well.

Sridevi, aged 54,  passed away in Dubai two week ago on February 24th, 2018. The cause of her death has been a matter of debate, between accidental drowning and a cardiac arrest.

Shashi Kapoor was not a star in India for his skills but was familiar to international audiences for his works in scores of English language movie of the sixties, seventies, eighties, and nineties. He starred in several Merchant-Ivory films such as ‘The Householder’, ‘Shakespeare Wallah’, ‘Heat and Dust’ and ‘In Custody’.

Sridevi was considered the first female superstar of Indian Film Industry. She acted in 300 movies and featured in Hindi and many regional language movies. She gained immense popularity for flawlessly adapting to versatile roles in her movies.

She was praised immensely for her work in ‘Sadma’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Mr. India’ and ‘English Vinglish’. She was not only a great actress but a phenomenal dancer too.

Actors Rishi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan took to Twitter to thank Oscars for their humble gesture.Both Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi were honored in their lives with Padmashri award. They both were also given state honors at their funeral.
