Subaru Uncharted Unveiled as Rugged 338bhp Electric SUV Blending Off Road Power and Everyday...

Subaru has revealed the new Uncharted SUV as its third electric car, joining the new-look Solterra crossover and the high-riding E-Outback estate.

Based on strategic partner Toyota's new C-HR+ (just as the Solterra is based on the bZ4X), the Uncharted will launch in the UK early next year with dimensions and specifications that line it up as a rival to the Ford Capri, Cupra Tavascan and Kia EV6.

The Uncharted will look to claim an edge over its rivals for rugged utility, however, with Subaru claiming the new model delivers the brand's "signature ruggedness allied with dynamic agility".

Compared to the Subaru Crosstrek, the new Uncharted is 35mm longer, 70mm wider, and 25mm taller than its rangemate. The wheelbase is also 80mm longer than the Crosstek but some 100mm shorter than the Solterra to solidify its position as the compact offering in the line-up.

While its silhouette is identical to the C-HR+, the Uncharted bolsters its off-road credentials with a raised ride height (to 210mm), chunky black body cladding and functional roof rails.

Some inspiration is taken from the revised Solterra and new E-Outback, with the blanked-off grille flanked by the new six-element LED daytime running lights. Black badges have also been added to align with the Uncharted’s “tough compact character”.

Based on the e-Subaru Global Platform, the Uncharted is offered with a choice of two batteries, with front- and four-wheel-drive powertrains available.

This mirrors the C-HR+, but Subaru is clear that the Uncharted has a different suspension and steering tune to give it a “sporty and nimble character”. It also gets the same suite of off-road driving modes as the Forester.

The entry-level model is fitted with a 165bhp front-mounted electric motor and a 57.7kWh battery pack giving up to 276 miles of range.

Models fitted with the larger 77kWh battery can be had in both two- and four-wheel-drive form. The single-motor, front-wheel drive model makes 221bhp and can travel up to 363 miles on a charge. The twin-motor, meanwhile, offers up to 292 miles of range, but makes 338bhp, can sprint from 0-62mph in 5.0sec and tow up to 1500kg.

All batteries can accept a peak charging speed of 150kW, with a 10-80% boost achieved in around 30 minutes.

The Uncharted's interior is carried over from the C-HR+, featuring a squared-off steering wheel with plenty of buttons down each side. There’s a 7.0in driver display and a new 14in infotainment touchscreen, plus another panel of chunky physical switches and controls in the centre console.

The new EV will launch in the UK in early 2026, with the new E-Outback crossover set to arrive soon after. Pricing remains under wraps but it is likely that the entry-level Uncharted will land with a sub-£40,000 price tag.

Subaru Trailseeker NY motor show stand front quarter Off-road-ready wagon swaps Trailseeker for a more familiar name as it heads to UK showrooms

Subaru has confirmed that its new high-riding EV estate car will be called the E-Outback in the UK, to cement its positioning as an EV alternative to the brand's longstanding SUV-wagon.

Revealed earlier this year in the US, where it will be sold as the Trailseeker, the E-Outback is Subaru's first electric car to be developed in-house. It offers four-wheel drive and the same 8.3in (211mm) of ground clearance as the Solterra electric SUV.

The machine will launch first in the USA in early 2026, but will be a key part of Subaru's plans to expand its EV line-up in Europe, where it will go on sale next year. It will be joined by the new-look 2026 Solterra and the freshly revealed Uncharted crossover.

The Solterra is twinned with the Toyota bZ4X and the Uncharted is based on the C-HR+, and the Trailseeker shares the same platform as those machines - but is said to have been conceived purely as a Subaru. Inoue Masahiko, Subaru's EV product manager, said it featured about 70% Subaru parts and would be built at one of the firm's factories, while the Solterra is manufactured by Toyota.

The Trailseeker packs a pair of 201bhp motors (one per axle) that offer a maximum system output of 375bhp, enabling a 0-60mph sprint time of 4.4secs. The Solterra features a smaller motor on the rear axle, and Inoue-san said the decision to offer two identical motors was made by Subaru to optimise its all-wheel-drive performance.

The 74.7kWh lithium ion battery is estimated to be good for a maximum range of 279 miles, pending official WLTP testing, and can be charged at rates of up to 150kW, so a 10-80% fill can take less than 35 minutes.

It can tow loads of up to 1588kg and offers several drive models for surfaces including snow and deep mud, as well as a hill descent control system.

Inside, it's said to offer slightly more cargo space than the Solterra, putting it on a par with the Outback.

There's a 14.0in infotainment touchscreen (the biggest fittest in a Subaru yet) and a high-set digital instrument panel too.

Subaru has yet to announce pricing, but the Trailseeker is likely to be positioned above the Solterra.

Deliveries will begin early next year in the US, with the UK and other European markets close behind.

As well as revealing the Trailseeker and a heavily revised Solterra at the New York motor show, Subaru has confirmed it will launch two more EVs this year – although only one of those will come to Europe.

While Subaru has yet to reveal details it's possible that - as the Solterra is twinned with the Toyota bZ4X – this will be a restyled version of the new Toyota C-HR+. The two firms have an extended partnership to develop more joint EV models, although Subaru is working on its own purely developed in-house EVs for 2028 onwards.

Range Rover Electric Launch Delayed to 2026 as Jaguar EV Timeline Faces Uncertainty

Range Rover Electric Launch Delayed to 2026 as Jaguar EV Timeline Faces Uncertainty

range rover ev prototype review 2025 011 Customers told delay is to allow for more testing time and for EV demand to pick up

First deliveries of the Range Rover Electric have been pushed back until next year – and a report claims this could also delay the first new-era Jaguar models

Parent JLR’s highly anticipated second EV, after the Jaguar I-Pace, was due to hit roads later this year with prototypes finishing late-stage testing.

As recently as 15 July, the Range Rover website stated that orders would begin in late 2025, with JLR confirming the same timeframe to Autocar during our testing of the test mule earlier this month

However, the wording on the website has now changed to 2026, and a report from The Guardian claims waitlist customers – of which there are 62,000 – have been informed about the delay.

This, it is thought, could also push back the launch of the electric Range Rover Velar, which was expected to arrive in the middle of next year following the full-fat Range Rover.

JLR’s reasoning is down to allowing more time for testing and for demand for electric vehicles to pick up – and is something which could also push back the first models in Jaguar’s rebrand, the report claims.

The production version of Jaguar’s Type 00 concept, a £100,000 super-GT packing more than 575bhp, is pencilled to arrive next August. A large luxury saloon and an SUV were due to follow from 2027.

In response to the report, a statement from JLR didn’t confirm or deny the delay, but did state that it would launch its new models “at the right time”. It read: “By 2030 JLR will sell electric versions of all its luxury brands. Our plans and vehicle architectures are flexible so we can adapt to different market and client demands. We are committed to the highest standards of design, capability and quality, and we will launch our new models at the right time for our clients, our business and individual markets.”
