Former Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took a swipe at Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, accusing him of emulating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but falling far short of the mark.

Speaking at the United Nations in New York, where he is part of a Pakistani delegation aiming to counter India’s stance on Operation Sindoor, Bhutto-Zardari remarked, “Mr. Modi is sort of the Temu version of Netanyahu — essentially, a poor imitation. We urge the Indian government not to draw inspiration from the worst examples.”

Bhutto-Zardari also emphasized Pakistan’s civilizational heritage, highlighting its connection to the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. “We are the heirs of the Indus Valley Civilization. Mohenjodaro is just a stone’s throw from my constituency,” he said, while also acknowledging that India too takes pride in its historical legacy.
This is not the first time the PPP leader has targeted Prime Minister Modi. In 2022, during a speech at the UN, Bhutto launched a personal attack, claiming he was unafraid of the RSS, BJP, or Modi.

Responding to Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s harsh criticism of Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorism, Bhutto-Zardari referred to Modi as the “butcher of Gujarat,” pointing to his alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots. “No matter how hard the BJP or RSS try, they cannot rewrite history,” he was quoted by Dawn as saying.
His comments sparked protests across India, with the BJP condemning them as “uncivilised and distasteful personal attacks” on the Prime Minister. India’s Ministry of External Affairs described Bhutto’s remarks as “a new low,” suggesting his frustration would be better directed at those responsible for embedding terrorism into Pakistan’s state policy.
