The president of the United States of America (USA) has confirmed that the delegation of Pakistan is visiting the USA next week for the trade talks. A conversation was held between Pakistan’s Finance Minister or Muhammad Aurangzeb, and US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer to launch the process on Friday.
The talks are the result of the imposition of tariffs by the US on various countries. Pakistan faces a 29% tariff from the US. Trump had paused the imposition of the tariff for 90-days.
“As you know, we’re very close to making a deal with India,” Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews after departing Air Force One. The USA is Pakistan’s largest trading partner. The new duties by the USA fear to shake Pakistan’s already fragile economy.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb described the beginning of trade talks with the US as both a challenge and an opportunity to reset trade ties, according to his ministry.
“Pakistan’s formal negotiations on US reciprocal tariffs kick-started between Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s Finance Minister, and Ambassador Jamieson Greer, United States Trade Representative, through a telephonic/conference call on 30th May, 2025,” it said.

“The two sides exchanged their viewpoint through a constructive engagement with the understanding that technical-level level detailed discussions would follow in the coming few weeks.”
“Pakistan is offering to enter into a bilateral agreement with zero tariffs on selected tariff lines, with mutual interests, to expand bilateral trade across multiple sectors,” claims Pakistani media outlet Express Tribune.
Meanwhile, the USA is holding trade talks with India already. The US President once again took the credit for mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. In his previous statements, Trump said he offered both countries lots of trade if they end the conflict. He added, he would discontinue the trade if both the countries continued escalating the war.
