Donald Trump on Thursday praised Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir during the first meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington.
At the inaugural Board of Peace meeting, President Trump PRAISED Pakistan’s leadership. He called PM Sharif and military general Asim Munir “great guys.”

At the session, Trump said he liked the Pakistani prime minister and described Field Marshal Munir as a “tough, serious fighter.” He recalled meeting both leaders during last year’s tensions between Pakistan and India and repeated his claim that he helped prevent a wider war between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Trump referenced Sharif’s earlier remarks crediting him with saving millions of lives by helping stop the conflict. The confrontation had followed a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan—an allegation Islamabad denied while offering an independent investigation.

He said multiple aircraft were shot down during the clashes and again asserted that U.S. pressure, including threats of steep tariffs, helped secure a ceasefire on May 10 after nearly four days of fighting. Trump also praised Munir’s professionalism and described him as a strong military leader, adding that 11 “very expensive” planes were lost in the confrontation.
