Pakistan and the United States have unanimously denied rumours of President Donald Trump visiting Pakistan in September. On Thursday, some local television news channels reported—citing unnamed sources—that Trump was expected to visit Pakistan in September. The channels also claimed that he would visit India after arriving in Islamabad.
However, the channels later withdrew their reports. The White House also dismissed the rumours. The White House dismissed the rumours. “A trip to Pakistan has not been scheduled at this time,” a White House official said.
In Pakistan, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali also strongly denied such reports. “We have no information about this matter,” said the spokesperson.
The U.S. Embassy Spokesperson in Islamabad also declined to comment on the issue, stating that they had nothing to announce on this matter. They added that the White House might be able to confirm the President’s schedule. George W. Bush was the last U.S. President to visit Pakistan in 2016.
India is set to host the summit of the Quad countries this year, but dates for the meetings have not been announced yet. The Quad grouping includes the US, India, Australia, and Japan, and is focused on countering China’s rise in the Indo-Pacific region. Meanwhile, British King Charles will host Trump from September 17 to 19 for his unprecedented second state visit to Britain, Buckingham Palace said on Monday.
Meanwhile, the journalist sharing the news on Pakistani media also apologized for misreporting.
