US hits Iranian missile sites near Strait of Hormuz with massive 5,000-lb bombs. Iran restricts shipping; tensions rise in the Middle East.

The US on Tuesday has dropped massive powerful 5,000-pound bombs in Iranian missile site near the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The point has been a flashpoint in the recent days in the ongoing Iran-US war. The US claims these powerful deep-penetrator munitions targeted the Iranian missile sites that were a risk to international shipping in this strait.

Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz and is allowing only selected countries to pass its tankers, oil tankers, and cargo ships, while the rest of the traffic through this Strait of Hormuz has been halted for weeks now.

The U.S. Central Command states that the deep penetrator bombs along the Iran’s coast near Strait of Hormuz were hit at the hardened sites containing anti-ship cruise missiles. President Trump earlier lashed out at the NATO allies over their reluctance to support the U.S. efforts in Iran.

“US forces successfully employed multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator munitions on hardened Iranian missile sites along Iran’s coastline near the Strait of Hormuz,” Central Command said in a statement on X.

“The Iranian anti-ship cruise missiles in these sites posed a risk to international shipping in the strait,” the statement read further.
