Legendary former Pakistani cricketer Waqar Younis posted a light-hearted reposte to Muhammad Hafeez’s criticism of 1990s cricketing stars of Pakistan.
In a sports show, former cricketer Muhammad Hafeez asserted that the cricketing superstars of Pakistan from the 1990s did not leave any legacy for the next generation as they did not win any ICC tournament. He said players from that era were talented and skilled, however, they did not inspire any legacy because they could not win any tournament.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Younis posted a throwback picture alongside Wasim Akram, highlighting their combined bowling records. Younis posted a cryptic post following the viral comments of Hafez.
He captioned the post in bold letters, “90’s KA LONDA (Boys from the 90s),” implying that their performances spoke for themselves amid criticism.

Shoaib Akhtar had criticised the Pakistan team for not having the enough talent needed to win the tournament. Responding to his criticism, Hafeez asserted that they lack inspiration. Despite having big names like Shoaib Akhtar, Waqar Younis, and Wasim Akram, Pakistan could not win any ICC tournament after 1992. He recalled that Pakistan only won the ICC T20I World Cup in 2009 and later the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, which paved the way for the return of cricket to Pakistan.
“I am a huge fan of those who played in the 1990s, but when it comes to legacy, they left nothing for Pakistan. They didn’t win an ICC event – they lost the World Cups of 1996, 1999, and 2003. We reached one final (in 1999) and lost that badly,” Hafeez said.
The former cricketer further added that it was under the leadership of Imran Khan that Pakistan team performed well.
