Wasim Akram Spy? Cricketer Slams Indian Media Over Shocking Mistaken Identity

Cricket legend Wasim Akram reacts as Indian media mistakenly links him to a spy arrest in Haryana.

Pakistani former cricketer Wasim Akram slammed the Indian media for mistakenly associating him with an alleged spy with the same name. According to a report by Free Press, General Wasim Akram slammed Indian media and social media users for assuming without verification that he was a spy arrested in Haryana because the arrested man’s name was also Wasim Akram, his namesake.

The incident occurred on October 2, when a YouTuber named Wasim Akram was arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan. Pilots said that he had been in contact with Pakistani agents for three years and was allegedly helping them obtain SIM cards. In a video that went viral on social media, 59-year-old Wasim Akram said he slammed Indian media for posting his picture without verification.

In a video that went viral on social media platform X, 59-year-old Wasim Akram said, “You people are all over social media these days, so here’s a free piece of advice — always double-check before believing or sharing anything, no matter how famous the person is.”

He added, “A spy named Wasim Akram has been caught in the country, and news channels are showing my picture without any verification or balance, posting nonsense comments. Please don’t make your lives difficult for no reason — check first.”

According to police, Wasim Akram, a resident of Kot village in Palwal district, who posted videos on the history of Mewat on YouTube, was arrested on Wednesday. Indian police claim he had been in touch with Pakistani agents for the past three years and allegedly provided SIM cards to them.

Police claim to have found several incriminating WhatsApp chats from Akram’s phone, some of which were deleted, and the cyber cell is in the process of retrieving them from his phone. Indian police had claimed to arrest another Pakistani spy, Taufiq, last week, who gave the cops the lead about Akram.

Akram came into contact with Pakistani agent Danish in 2021 by applying for a visa to a neighbouring country. Akram’s family has denied him travelling to Pakistan; however, the Indian media claims several facts emerged during his interrogation, which point to his cross-border links. According to Indian police, both Akram and Taufiq were in touch with the ISI and the Pakistani High Commission through internet calls.
