Watch: Noreen Niazi, sister of Imran Khan, was injured after falling into an under-construction drainage line near Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. She slipped while crossing the excavation near Dahgal Naka as she went to meet Khan; another woman accompanying her was also injured.

Noreen Niazi, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, was injured on Tuesday after falling into an under-construction sewerage line near Dahgal Naka in Rawalpindi, according to eyewitnesses and rescue officials.

The incident occurred when Niazi, accompanied by her sisters and several other women, arrived in the area to meet Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail. Police had reportedly stopped their vehicle at a checkpoint near the facility, forcing the group to proceed on foot toward the meeting point.

While attempting to cross an excavation site created for an ongoing drainage project, Niazi lost her footing and slipped into the partially dug sewerage line. Bystanders and rescue personnel at the scene responded quickly, pulling her out of the trench and shifting her to a safer location for immediate assistance.

Rescue officials said she sustained injuries to her hands, feet, and nose. Another woman accompanying her also slipped during the crossing attempt and suffered injuries, though both individuals were reported to be conscious following the incident.

Eyewitnesses described the construction area as difficult to navigate, citing uneven ground and limited safety barriers around the excavation. The site, located close to a frequently used access route near the jail, has seen regular movement of visitors and security personnel.

No official statement had been issued by local authorities regarding safety arrangements at the construction site at the time of reporting. The incident has raised concerns among visitors about pedestrian safety in areas undergoing development near sensitive government installations.

Further details regarding Niazi’s medical condition and any inquiry into the incident are awaited.
