Watch: PM Shehbaz Sharif Shuts Down Indian Journalist on Cross-Border Terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shut down an Indian journalist at the UN, saying Pakistan is successfully stopping cross-border attacks from India.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday delivered a firm response to an Indian journalist questioning Pakistan on cross-border terrorism.

Upon his arrival at the United Nations to address the General Assembly, the journalist asked when Pakistan would put an end to such activities. In reply, the premier said, “We [Pakistan] are defeating you [India] in cross-border terrorism,” speaking in a strong and assertive tone.

Tensions between the two countries have remained high since May, when India launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorist incident, which New Delhi has blamed on Islamabad — a charge Pakistan has consistently denied. The strain between the nations was also reflected on the cricket field, when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav twice refused to shake hands with Pakistan’s Salman Ali Agha during the Asia Cup.

In his UNGA speech, PM Shehbaz stated, “In May, my country confronted unprovoked aggression from our eastern front. The enemy came shrouded in arrogance; we sent them back in humiliation, delivering a bloody nose.”

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance against terrorism, saying, “Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. For over two decades, Pakistan has been at the frontline of global counter-terrorism efforts.”

Speaking to the media after his address, the prime minister credited US President Donald Trump for playing a pivotal role in bringing an end to the conflict between Pakistan and India, expressing gratitude for the American president’s efforts in ensuring regional peace.

PM Shehbaz concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s position: the country continues to successfully counter India’s cross-border terrorism.
