WhatsApp to launch centralized chat media hub

WhatsApp to launch Chat Media Hub, letting users manage all shared media across chats with filters, file info, and bulk actions.

WhatsApp is gearing up to launch a powerful new feature called the Chat Media Hub, aimed at transforming how users manage shared media across chats. Designed to streamline file access and storage management, this upcoming addition will centralize all shared content—ranging from photos and videos to documents and links—into one easy-to-navigate location. The feature will be available on both mobile and web platforms, offering a more organized, user-friendly experience tailored to the needs of modern communication.

All Shared Media in One Place

The Chat Media Hub will serve as a centralized location where users can view and manage all types of shared files—images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links—without the need to search through individual conversations. This feature aims to save time, reduce frustration, and provide a more organized user experience.

For mobile users, the feature will initially support group chats only, allowing them to browse media shared across all their WhatsApp groups. Meanwhile, the web version will offer a broader capability, allowing users to access media not only from group chats but also from individual one-on-one conversations.

Easy Access via Sidebar

On the WhatsApp Web client, the Media Hub will be conveniently accessible through a dedicated entry point in the sidebar. Once clicked, users will be directed to a comprehensive overview of all shared content. This eliminates the need to scroll endlessly through messages in search of specific files.

Enhanced Browsing and Filtering Tools

To improve content navigation, WhatsApp is integrating filter-based search options. Users will be able to sort files by most recent, oldest, or largest, providing flexible ways to locate specific content. This is particularly useful when dealing with large volumes of shared media.

In addition, multi-selection tools will be introduced to enable batch operations such as deleting, downloading, or forwarding multiple files at once. This feature is designed to boost efficiency, especially for users managing storage or sharing multiple items.

Contextual File Details

The Media Hub won’t just collect and display files—it will also provide valuable metadata. For documents and links, users will be able to see the name of the contact who shared the file, along with the date it was sent or received. All files, including images and videos, will show their file sizes, helping users identify large files that may need to be removed to free up storage.

Step Toward Better Storage Management

This centralized approach is especially helpful for users trying to manage their device storage. Instead of manually checking each chat for large files, users can now review them all in one place. The feature makes it easier to locate forgotten media—like an old photo sent in a family group or a critical document shared in a work chat.

Currently in beta testing for Android version 2.24.13.4, the feature is still under development but is expected to be part of an upcoming WhatsApp update. The company plans to roll it out gradually, starting with the web client and group chat support on mobile, and potentially expanding from there.
